State Route 44 Maintenance Project - Portage County
Village of Mantua and Shalersville & Ravenna Townships
The Ohio Department of Transportation proposes to resurface approximately 2.7 miles of State Route 44 in Shalersville Township, in Portage County, Ohio. The pavement resurfacing will be performed on SR 44 between Lake Rockwell Road and State Route 303. Moreover, the project will perform maintenance on two (2) State Route 44 structures located on SR 44 north and south of the pavement resurfacing limits.

The project will make repairs to the bridge approach slabs and concrete deck wearing surface, replace compression seal joints, reset and refurbish bridge bearings at both abutments and install new structure identification signs.
State Route 44 Culvert between Dawley Road and State Route 14 in Ravenna Township
At a minimum, the project will replace the existing culvert headwalls and repair embankment erosion damage. Depending on the extent of structure deterioration, the project may opt to replace the entire culvert structure.
During pavement maintenance operations, a minimum of one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on State Route 44.
Bridge maintenance will result in closure of State Route 44 between Orchard Street and Canada Road in the Village of Mantua for a maximum of 28 consecutive days. Through traffic will be detoured using State Route 303, State Route 700 and State Route 305.
Culvert Maintenance (or replacement) will result in the closure of State Route 44 between State Route 14 and Dawley Road for a maximum of 14 consecutive days. Through traffic will be detoured using State Route 14, State Route 88 and State Route 303.
Construction and lane restriction information will be posted prior to the start of construction and this information will updated and posted prior to each change in construction phase/travel pattern during the duration of the project. Access shall be maintained to all adjacent properties, businesses and intersecting side streets for the duration of the project. Substantial traffic disruptions are not expected with the project.
The project is in preliminary project design. Construction work is scheduled to begin in spring 2022 and be completed in fall 2022. Total project construction cost is $1,082,000.
The proposed project will not result in any substantial impacts to environmental resources. The environmental review, consultation and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding, dated June 6, 2018, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
